Captain David W. Bennett of the Region 9 New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Police today issued a mid-season summary of hunting-related enforcement actions that have occurred during the first two weeks of the regular deer season. Region 9 covers six counties: Erie, Niagara, Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany.
“Since the start of regular season, Environmental Conservation Officers in Region 9 have reported a total of 184 enforcement actions against 124 defendants, in addition to responding to 186 calls for service,” Captain Bennett said. “Of the 184 enforcement actions, 62 were misdemeanors and 38 involved the misuse of firearms. These statistics represent the Division of Law Enforcement’s commitment to public safety, and also reflect enforcement’s role in ensuring the wise use of the state’s wildlife resources.”
